Halo Demo

By clare | Sep 24, 2007

One of the most popular games to come from the shooter genre in recent years, the Halo trilogy is a big hit on the Xbox gaming system.  Featuring robust first person shooter controls, fun gamer versus gamer combat, allowing you to play against human opponents over a network, and the use of innovative gadgets and vehicles, the Halo trilogy is one of Microsoft’s most popular releases.  However, if you are not sure whether you want to put down any money on this game, you need to find a demo of one of the Halo games.

Luckily for us, Microsoft wants people to get hooked on Halo, so they have released a demo of Halo so gamers can try the game out for free.  Let us take a look at what to expect when you do decide to give the Halo demo a try.

How to Download the Demo:

The best place to download the Halo demo is through the Microsoft website, though there is likely to be other copies of the demo available through other file-sharing sites.  The reason to get the demo direct from Microsoft is that you are guaranteed that the file will be free of viruses and you can be confident that the download will be as quick as your internet connection allows.  Speaking of download speeds, expect to leave your modem on for up to five hours if you are on dial-up due to the size of the file, about 130 MB.

Single Player Mode:

The Halo demo features two modes: single player and multiplayer, but let us concentrate on the single-player game first.  What you can expect from the demo is a single level of the game, just enough to give you an idea of how to control the game, perhaps a little of the plot and a chance to enjoy the sounds and sights that the game includes.  Expect the volume of game there for you to entertain you for two hours at most.

Multiplayer Mode:

Due to a lot of the replay value of Halo being in the player versus player combat, the demo for Halo also features a chance to try out the multiplayer mode.  In this mode, you get a single map to play on, which means you will quickly learn the terrain, but you will still get some extra challenges as you take on human opponents playing from their own computers.  So, once you have had your fill of the single player version and tried out a few hours on the multiplayer mode, your evaluation of the Halo demo should tell you whether or not it is the game for you.
